How is the Tooth Crown Procedure?

Depending on the type of tooth crown that you need, it can take from one or two visits to complete the procedure.

Tooth Crown over Dental Implant

It’s usually is made of zirconia, but it also can be from PFM. The tooth crown is screwed or cemented onto the abutment.

If the crown is screwed to the abutment, the screw hole will be covered with restorative material such as tooth-colored filling material (composite).

The tooth crown over the dental implant may take 5 to 10 days, or less, to make a permanent crown. The crown can be created from a model of your teeth and gum tissue that includes the abutment.

A crown can be made wider to close a space.

Tooth Crown Bridge

Dental bridges are a special type of crown which can be used to create a lifelike replacement for a missing tooth. This involves using three or more crowns fused together.

The crowns at the end are placed over healthy, complete teeth, while the crowns in between replace one or more missing teeth.

The more teeth that need to be replaced, the more crowns are necessary to be placed over healthy teeth. For example, if you have three teeth in a row missing, you might need two crowns on either side to give adequate strength and support.

Crowns and bridges, although artificial, require the same care as real teeth for optimum results. Be sure to brush and floss between all of your teeth and crowns every day to reduce the buildup of dental plaque.
